Old and New, Kaplan, Sarona and the Templars

Writer: RickRick

Nothing describes Tel Aviv in 2023 better than Old and New. Here we can see houses from the first colony outside of Old Jaffa, a German Templar colony referred to as Sarona. After WWII after its residents were evicted from the Jewish State for supporting Hitler, Israel transformed the area into part of its military compound. It even housed Adolf Eichmann after he was kidnapped from Argentina to stand trial for his role in the holocaust.

About 10 years ago it was handed back to the city residents and made into an entertainment district full of restaurants and shops. In the photo you can see a Templar house built in the late 1880s, transformed into a shop. With new construction taking place behind it. The juxtaposition of old and new is a synonymous for Tel Aviv.
